Privacy Policy
At Spit, your privacy is fundamental to how we build the product. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user.
1. What We Collect
Spit collects minimal data to operate the service:
- Voice audio: When you use dictation, your audio is sent to an AI transcription service (OpenAI Whisper) to convert speech to text. Audio is not stored after transcription.
- Text content: When you use text-to-speech reading, the selected text is processed to generate audio. This text is not stored.
- Usage counters: Anonymous counts of dictation and reading sessions are stored locally on your device to manage your free trial limits.
- License information: If you purchase a subscription or lifetime licence, your email address and payment details are processed by our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy). We store your licence key and activation status.
2. What We Do Not Collect
- We do not record, store, or transmit your voice audio beyond what is needed for real-time transcription.
- We do not read, store, or transmit the content of your screen or clipboard.
- We do not track what applications you use Spit with.
- We do not build user profiles or sell data to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
- OpenAI Whisper API: Used for speech-to-text transcription. Audio is processed under OpenAI's Privacy Policy. OpenAI does not use API input data to train models by default.
- Lemon Squeezy: Used for payment processing and licence management. See Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.
4. Data Storage and Security
Spit is a macOS app. Your usage data and preferences are stored locally on your device using macOS standard storage mechanisms. We do not operate servers that store your personal content.
Licence validation communicates with Lemon Squeezy's servers over HTTPS.
5. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights:
- Right to access the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to data portability
- Right to object to processing

6. Children's Privacy
Spit is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting a notice on our website. Continued use of Spit after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
